Wildlife Wednesday at Treehaven: Deer
Wednesday, December 11, 2024 (5:00 PM - 6:00 PM) (CST)
Description
Discover wildlife that calls Wisconsin's Northwoods home through Wildlife Wednesdays at Treehaven! Join us monthly for this FREE all-ages program series, and explore the natural history of each month's focus animal through presentations, interactive activities, guided walks, and/or specimen observation. From fur to feathers, woods to water, predator to prey, and more, experience the diversity of the animal world right outside our windows!
Members of the deer family Cervidae, including deer, elk, and moose, are scientifically referred to as 'cervids'. White-tailed deer are some of the most common cervids spotted in the Northwoods- with a population of about1.6 million in Wisconsin, they're hard to miss! Though elk and sometimes moose are also present in our state, they are much harder to come across. Despite their differences, all three of these cervids have complicated histories in WI and still face various challenges today.
Through touchables and an interactive presentation, explore the life history of Wisconsin's white-tailed deer, elk, and moose and how their populations have changed since European settlement in the 1800s. Learn what issues they still face in the present day, and find out how you can contribute to research and management of cervids in Wisconsin!
Meet at the main entrance (double doors with Treehaven sign). Doors will open at 4:50 PM, talk begins at 5:00 PM. This is a seated, indoor presentation that will take place in the upper auditorium, Room 200. All ages welcome! Children must be accompanied by an adult at all times.
Registration will remain open through the start of the event. Please reserve a spot for each attendee.
